The third graders looked at the prints by graphic designer James Hancock. They then sketched realistic or imaginary buildings with patterns and transferred their drawings onto styrafoam plates. Once their plates were created, the students prepared colored paper with crayon texture rubbings before printing their images. The first graders looked at the artwork of Charley Harper. They discussed symmetry and idenified insects that Harper created to be symmetrical. The students then used different types of paper and collage methods to create their own symmetrical beetles. The first graders have been practicing using the whole page of their paper as well as making their drawings extend off of their page. The students used simple shapes to create a mosquito and colored them in by overlapping colored pencil to create new colors. The second graders looked at paintings by the surrealism artist Joan Miro. They discussed primary colors and why they are special. They then created their own surreal creatures with pets. The fourth graders looked at old comic strips and the artwork of Roy Lichtenstein. They discussed using onomatopoeias in their writing and then used text and collage methods to create their poster. |
