The second graders talked about different species of lizards. They also learned the difference between shape and form and how to go from a 2D shape to a 3D form. They created their lizards entirely out of paper. The fourth graders practiced mixing one color with white and black to make tints and shades of that pure color. The fifth graders looked at the artwork of Claus Oldenburg. They learned about the pop art movement, discussed the process of building a sculpture using an armature, and distinguished between the art terms shape and form. They created their own ice cream sculptures using tissue paper armature, tape, news paper strips and paper mache. Finally, the students painted their cones to their liking. The first graders have been working with pattern. In this hot air balloon project, the students create two hot air balloons that overlapped, drew patterns on their balloons, and painted them incorporating color patterns. Here are the first finished Georgia Okeefe inspired flowers. The students used oil pastel and tempera paints to create their large, upclose flowers. More to come! The third graders learned a bit about the history of the lego figures. They also discussed what it means to create a self portrait. The students then drew their own lego figure and turned it into themselves. The students added props and backgrounds to personalize their work. The fourth graders looked at the pop artists Andy Warhol and Burton Morris. They then used viewfinders or little windows to look at images of candy wrappers. The students were to then enlarge only what they saw in their viewfinder and match the colors as best they could. The second graders looked at the artwork of Kevin Cole. They then learned a variety of ways to make a sculpture out of only paper and glue. The students were instructed to make their paper twist, loop, spring etc. |
